Large amounts of rain and poorly drained soils can cause pools of water to form.  This standing water is a haven for bacteria and fungus to form.  This same standing water can also be used as a breeding ground for mosquitos.

A French drain is often used to redirect water away from low areas or areas prone to flooding.  French drains can also be used to keep standing water away from house and building foundations which will help prevent flooding and damage.
HDPE pipe is a highly durable product that can last up to 100 years.  It has the ability to flex under stress, which would normally cause concrete or metal pipe to crack and break.  For this reason it is often used as a replacement for old deteriorated corrugated metal pipe (CMP). HDPE pipe has smooth surface which resist abrasion. HDPE pipe also has a smaller carbon footprint, and is less than 10% of the overall weight of concrete pipe making for a much easier installation process.
If you experience yard flooding after a rain event, or have standing water in your yard, this is a sure sign of improper drainage. You may need an underground drainage system such as a French drain, or an inground system such as a channel drain, or a drain basin installed to remove water from your property. With so many different drainage solutions to choose from, it is always important to consult a drainage expert to make sure you make the right choice for your yard or property.
